Third Garden City Lecture - book now!

Duany Andres

Planners, architects, politicians, students and lovers of garden cities are expected to flock to Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday 25th June 2014. The attraction will be the arrival of renowned international planner, Andres Duany, to give a presentation on his submission to the Wolfson Prize Committee. The prize asks entrants to write an essay on how they would deliver a new garden city which is visionary, economically viable and popular.

Organised jointly by the Welwyn Garden Society (WGCS) and the Welwyn Garden City Heritage Trust (WGCHT) this will be the third in the lecture series. The organisers are delighted that Mr Duany agreed to give the talk and that Lord Salisbury has also agreed to introduce the event.

Andres Duany is among the most influential architects in the world today.  Famed as the designer of Seaside, Florida, he began his career as a modernist designing stylish high-rises in late 1970's Miami but changed direction to build urban communities. He formed a town planning design company with his partner and began planning, writing and lecturing around the world.

At the invitation of Lord Salisbury Duany, oversaw the Hertfordshire Charette and later undertook the same function for the Hatfield Old Town Charette. He has also given leading edge lectures on the role and creation of Garden Cities at the University of Hertfordshire.

The lecture will be held in the Hawthorn Theatre, Campus West in Welwyn Garden City starting at 7:30pm. Seats must be booked via the Campus West box office using their online portal or by telephoning 01707 357117.

There will be a booking fee of £1:50 to reserve your seat and the audience will be invited to make a donation towards the work of the two organisations on leaving the theatre. For further information visit the organiser’s websites. Click here to visit Campus West box office portal.
